Lauritz Melchior (1890-1973), Danish-born immigrant to America, was generally considered to be the epitome of operatic “heldentenors” (heroic tenors) during the early and middle 20th century. He is particularly associated with the operas of Richard Wagner.

DAAL has numerous recordings of Lauritz Melchior, including many of his appearances in popular US radio shows of the 1930s and 1940s. In addition, DAAL is the repository for Mr. Melchior’s scrapbooks, which can be viewed in digital form here.
